About

I’m a classical guitarist from Puerto Rico, based in New York City. My repertoire includes solo and chamber music spanning from classical works to contemporary pieces, with a special focus on compositions by Puerto Rican composers.

I studied music performance at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico and earned my Doctorate from Stony Brook University under the guidance of Professor Jerry Willard.

Currently, I am the Director of Guitar Studies at Stony Brook University, and I’m an Adjunct Associate Professor of Music at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York (CUNY).

Music

Currently I’m presenting three programs:

1. Solo Guitar Program:
This program blends Baroque works by Bach and Scarlatti with 20th-century music by three Puerto Rican composers: Rafael Hernandez, Juan Sorroche, and Leonardo Egúrbida.

2. Weiwei & José (Guitar & Piano Duo Program):
Alongside pianist Weiwei Zhai, we perform a diverse program spanning from the Baroque era to the 20th century. Repertoire includes music by Bach, Ferdinando Carulli, Mauro Giuliani, Manuel María Ponce, and Alonso Torres.

3. Dúo Copla (Guitar Duo Program):
Joined by Ernesto Ramos, we exclusively perform music by Puerto Rican composers, emphasizing 19th-century danzas by Morel Campos and including contemporary works by Ernesto Cordero and Leonardo Egúrbida.
