India meets Persia @sitar
Sitar and Kamanche
About
This project is a soulful reflection on the musical and cultural roots that connect the traditions of Hindustani Raga and Persian Dastgah. These two classical forms of music are steeped in improvisation, philosophy, and poetry. The sitar and kamanche - each principal melodic instruments in their respective genres - emulate the humanistic spirit of this music. Galen Passen and Mehrnam Rastegari are both deeply accomplished musicians of these genres as well as innovative creators and composers of their own musical projects. This collaboration draws from those works and the tradition alike.
Music
Improvisations in Raga and Dastgah as well as folk songs and compositions of Parissa, and Vilayat Khan
