About

Hi! I’m a seasoned professional who likes connecting with audiences through both words and music.

I've performed for over 35 years throughout California and the U.S.. I attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and have won quite a few competitions in my day. One of my prizes was a performance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. And I was thrilled when the California Music Teacher wrote that my solo CD is "more enjoyable than he barnstorming of the recent Van Cliburn finalists."

As a soloist I am alone a lot with the music. So when it comes time to perform, I enjoy speaking from the keyboard to help the audience connect with me and the music more deeply. I give background about the historical context of the music. I also share my own experience with the pieces: why I chose them, and what are the joys and challenges of each work. Sometimes I also give a short explanation of the form (nocturne, fugue, etc) to help listeners connect with the style and message of each piece.

  • "An amazing program played by such a gifted musician. I loved every note! And I appreciate learning a little about the composers and the music from the performer."

    - David T., past guest at Nocturnes by Chopin and Women Composers
  • "Rebecca's playing was great and her discussions about each piece and the composers really enhanced our enjoyment of the experience."

    - Ruth S., past guest at Nocturnes by Chopin and Women Composers

Music

I take a special interest in advocating for overlooked composers, particularly women.

My favorite era of classical music is from the mid 19th to early 20th century. Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann are my current causes. I’m also very partial to Chopin. His music demands so much from me both technically and musically.... and I love practicing it because it feels so good in my hands while also sounding great.
