About

Ian Gu is a cellist and a rising junior at Phillips Academy Andover. He is currently studying with Dr. Mark Churchill, at the New England Conservatory in Boston. There, he performs at recitals and workshops weekly. In the past, he has performed with the Empire Youth State Orchestra and made his Carnegie Hall debut in the summer of 2023. He has also performed with the Massachusetts All-District Orchestra and with his fellow string quartet at Andover.

Ian is a two-time finalist of the Uel Wade Music Scholarship Festival. He is also a recipient of the North Colonie Orchestra Award. During the past summers, he has attended Interlochen Arts Camp, most recently as part of the Advanced String Quartet program and as a member of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra.
