About
I have been a professional musician since the age of twelve. I have a background in non-linear mathematics, sacred systems, and cosmology. I am a classically trained contrabassist and sitarist. As a performer, I have extensive experience in orchestral and world music ensembles, jazz/blues combos, and solo sitar recitals. I invented a new acoustic instrument, the Bazantar. It was awarded a patent in 1999. Since inventing the Bazantar, my main focus has been on developing the performance techniques (pedagogy) for this instrument, composing, recording, teaching, doing workshops, and lecturing on sound and music’s effects on physiology and consciousness. My latest solo album is The Picasso Tunings, a four-hour tone poem of unaccompanied Bazantar music, and my most recent film work as a featured musician is Apple TV’s Prehistoric Planet with David Attenborough, Nocturnes, a 2024 Sundance Documentary Film Festival award winner, and Water For Life, a film about indigenous water rights.
Music
I am an expert improviser, a Jazz musician who grew up playing the entire canon of American popular music in my family's combo. I am also a classically trained sitarist and orchestra contrabassist. What I do has a vast pan-cultural vibe, meditative, Avante Garde, traditional, and spiritual with elements of many cultures: European, Indian, Persian, African, Chinese, American, Japanese, and so on. I am considered an expert on different cultures' tuning systems and the underlying mathematics that makes them distinct. People typically experience what I do as a soloist as healing though sometimes, depending on the situation, exorcistic. I am flexible and have performed in a multitude of different environments. My main music instructors were Henry Loew and Carolyn White of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Ustad Imrat Khan, the world-renowned Surbahar Maestro. Everything I perform is an original composition.
