Chris Tate
Cello
About
Hey! I'm Chris, a Cellist, Composer and Producer. I've been classically trained on cello since the age of 3 (Starting at the School For Strings in New York). When I was around 12 or 13 I started experimenting with contemporary cello techniques and more modern styles of music, which led me to even more opportunities alongside my classical experiences. When I was 17 I decided I wanted to pursue jazz even further, and I decided I wanted to study it in place of my classical training (although coming back to it occasionally). Currently, I'm pursuing a double major at the Berklee College of Music in Performance through the Global Jazz Institute, and Electronic Production and Design.

Music
Anything and everything from Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck to Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and more. I currently know around 70-80 jazz standards and I'm trying to add to my list every day! I'm also a big fan of tunes from classic broadway musicals, such as South Pacific, Sound of Music, Music Man, Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, My Fair Lady, etc). Depending on the show, I might sneak in some classical or contemporary classical rep as well.
