Arthur DENTE
Guitar
About
I learned music in two different ways: through Institutions such as the Conservatoire where, in addition to my instrument, I studied harmony, counterpoint and music history, graduating with a first prize in guitar. I then went on to study at the University of Musicology in Aix-en-Provence, France, where I obtained a Bachelor's degree and the CAPES in music, enabling me to become a teacher in the French Ministry of Education.
Today, my musical activities are quite varied: I'm a concert performer, composer and intermittent teacher through workshops.
As a composer and performer, I occasionally write large-scale works for choirs, orchestra, dancers and actors. For these orchestral works, I seek to give coherence of style while varying the different parts.
Music
My music is rooted in two historical currents: that of written, more scholarly music, and that of oral traditions, more improvised or with structures linked to song and dance. My preferred instrument is the guitar, which is naturally permeated by these two currents.
I've developed a repertoire of original compositions inspired by the Iberian world between classical music, flamenco and Portuguese fado. I include in my program a few pieces from the classical repertoire that have an aesthetic connection with my compositions. The musical style I approach connects the audience to different values, both spiritual and contemplative, but with a return to an invigorating rhythmic pulse. My repertoire includes the word "indien" in the title, which means "indigenous" the common ancestor of mankind. These pieces are freely and poetically inspired either by an imaginary Native American or by an indigenous person from elsewhere symbolizing a primal being allowing me to write from a blank page.
