About
Hello! My name is Jennifer Li. I am new to Groupmuse and am looking forward to being a part of this community of sharing and promoting classical music in a more personal way. I did my undergrad in cello performance at UCLA and have since started the Cantus chamber group. We have played together since college, so well over 10 years now. We have been hosting our own chamber music concerts for friends and family for the past 10 years. For more information about me, check out my website: www.jennifer-li.com.
Music
We really enjoy talking about the music and how different pieces relate to each other. Over the years we have programmed different repertoire. Below is our latest program:
Parisian Music from 1740-1933
Our program will explore how past aesthetics continue to shape modern ideas, supported by parallels between the composers and their visual analogs, cubist artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Our first set of pieces will show how Jean-Baptiste Barriere and Jean-Pierre Duport's classical works for two cellos is reflected in the neoclassical composition of Jean Francaix's string trio. In lieu of an intermission, we will perform a Frederic Chopin ballade interlude, ending with the jazz-influenced folk music of Maurice Ravel.
Barriere: Cello Sonata No. 4
Duport: Cello Sonata No. 1 in D Major
Francaix: String Trio in C Major
Ravel: Sonata for Violin and Cello
Audio
Brahms Intermezzo No. 2, Op. 118 (arr. Kryka)
Borodin String Quartet No. 2 - II
Ellington (Arr. Chihara) Take the A Train
Barriere Cello Sonata No. 4
