Henry Flory
Violin
About
Described by critics as a “poet” of the violin, Henry Flory is rapidly earning a reputation as one of the most dynamic and charismatic violinists of his generation, with a burgeoning career spanning the US, Europe, and Asia. Since his debut as an orchestral soloist at the age of 12, Henry has captivated audiences all over the world as a soloist and chamber musician. A recent prize winner at the Janacek International Violin Competition, praised for the depth of his interpretations and his powerful stage presence, Henry has performed as a soloist in some of the world's most famous halls, including Strathmore Hall, the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Austria's Mozarteum "Great Hall", Japan's Ishikawa Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as various other venues in Belgium, France, England, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, Japan, and the U.S.
A native of Washington, DC, Henry studied at the Conservatoire de Montpellier (France) at the age of seven, and since then has studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins and The Juilliard School. Henry holds his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Juilliard, where he worked with Sylvia Rosenberg and Lewis Kaplan. More recently, Henry spent a year at the Manhattan School of Music as a Professional Studies Candidate, working with Grigory Kalinovsky. Past teachers include Victor Danchenko, Jody Gatwood, Aaron Krosnick, and Nadien Moehlenkamp.
In addition to his solo and chamber music career, Henry is an accomplished orchestral musician and leader, and has appeared as concertmaster of the National Philharmonic, the American Pops Orchestra, and the Artosphere Festival Orchestra.
