Frances Borowsky
Cello
About
A dedicated citizen of the world, Frances embeds her memories of Norwegian fjords, Venetian artists, Parisian chocolates, and friendly Belgian cows into the rich tapestry of her explosive interpretations. The German newspaper, Heidelberg Rhein-Neckar Zeitung praised her as “very courageous...marvelously colorful, and performing with deep expression and a compelling temperament.” Frances has performed as soloist with the Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Rheinland-Pfalz Youth Orchestra, Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra of Bytom, and Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. Collaborators in chamber music have included pianists Brian Ganz, Daniel Weiser, and Georges Beriachvili, cellist Amit Peled, and faculty of Towson University and University of Maryland.
She most frequently performs together with her brother (violinist Emmanuel Borowsky) and sister (pianist Elizabeth Borowsky). Together, they have performed over 200 concerts in North America, Europe, and Asia at venues that include Carnegie Weill Hall in New York City, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, and the Krystof Penderecki European Music Centre in Lusławice-Krakow. Their tours have largely focused on outreach; concerts take place not only in formal halls, but in community centers, schools, churches, and synagogues. Their programs combine standard classical repertoire with 21st century works, including their own original compositions for piano trio that have been written to inspire reflection on historical and modern issues.
Simultaneous to her performance career, Frances has received cello performance degrees under the tutelage of Cecylia Barczyk at Towson University (BM), Amit Peled at The Peabody Conservatory (MM), and Alexander Huelshoff at Folkwang University in Germany (MM). She is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Musical Arts program at the University of Maryland, and serves as graduate assistant to Dr. Eric Kutz.
