The Song of the Lute

Details

Charles Iner full profile / Lute / 1 musician

Full program notes

This is a program of music for solo lute spanning the Renaissance, from the divine fantasies of Francesco da Milano, to the melancholy lachrimaes of John Dowland, and more. The intimacy, passion, and beauty of the lute is fully present in this varied and virtuosic program

Historical context

I play a reproduction of a lute that would have been played in continental Europe in the early 17th-century, playing music from surviving sources from that period, in performances based in the practices of the time. The lute is an old instrument, but it is incredible to what degree the music sounds fresh and interesting to modern ears.
