Music from Russia in the time of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff owes as much to Alexander Pushkin as the German world owes to Goethe and Schiller. This program dives into the rich colors of Russian Opera and the evocative musical drama drawn from Pushkin’s great works of narrative poetry and drama–the Queen of Spades, The Gypsies, the Golden Cockerel, and others. All beautiful music worthy of the stage in its drama and singing, but made for an intimate setting with cello and piano.
