Historical context
YOCOYA is heavily influenced by many rich musical cultures including Bebop, Afro-Cuban Music, Flamenco, and Folkloric Mexican Music. It is YOCOYA's mission to understand and properly showcase our love and understanding of each one of these musical traditions in both our writing and our playing. YOCOYA's musical influences range from John Coltrane, Vicente Amigo, Miles Davis, Chucho Valdez, John McLaughlin, Los Ponchos, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Jimmy Hendrix, Yuki Kajiura, and John Williams.
