Full program notes
Flute and Clarinet pair up to play the duos of Mucynski (published in 1973). Prepare for very contrasting music, from melancholy to joyous, from this American composer.
Violin and Viola dazzle with string pyrotechnics in this popular work by Halvorsen (Norway, 1894). The composer utilized a theme by Handel to
produce this Passacaglia, or set of variations over a chord progression.
The Hibiee-Jibiees (2020) by Marco Granados is a lightening fast arrangement of a Venezuelan Joropo. The composer is a devoted proponent of Latin music.
The Fuchs Duos for Violin and Clarinet are charming examples of Viennese late romantic music. Fuchs (1847-1927) himself was highly esteemed by his peers, such as Brahms, yet he did little to promote himself or his music, hence its relative obscurity. In addition to symphonies and choral works, Fuchs composed many serenades and much chamber music.
