Wind Blows Lotus Leaves - Owen Hopper
Built out of the idea of a collection of movements in Guang Ping Yang t’ai chi, the titles come from names of movements found in the long form. Each movement serves as a sonic representation of the physical movement and acts as a meditation and performance for audience and performer. Drawing on the structuring of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, there are both ensemble and solo movements.
Grasp Birds Tail
Single Whip
Wave Hands Like Clouds
High Pat On Horse
Cross Wave Of Water Lily
Bend Bow Shoot Tiger
Other orderings may be decided on in collaboration with the host, composer, and performers.
*This piece was newly commissioned by OLEA in 2023
