Host
A classical and jazz guitarist/composer from Columbia, Juan Calderon will perform at my beautiful loft in Columbia Street Waterfront District.
I am looking forward to host an evening of intriguing music he plays.
Though light appetizers and drinks will be served, this event is a pot luck. Please bring your favorite drinks and snacks to share.
Please note that this event is not for kids.
What's the music?
This concert summarizes music I have written during a two-month residency at the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico and which has been premiered for the most part at the Brooklyn Classical Guitar Society.
Where does this music come from?
My music is rooted in the classical and jazz traditions. Some people have said they can hear some Brahms. There is a strong influence of Villalobos, Scriabin and J.S. Bach. Keith Jarrett is a big influence as well as Bill Evans, coming from the jazz tradition. There are also elements of Flamenco from early repeated listening to masters such as Camarón. There is also some influence of Japanese music from having listened to Gagaku for a few years.
