Nothing gets much better than a summer day and lively music in a flowering garden with views of Cole Valley. We invite you to join us and the Bridge Music Collective quintet for an afternoon concert featuring music of Piazzolla and black composer, William Grant Still.
Founded in 2023, The Collective is a group of musicians traversing repertoire with unique instrumentation and relationship to the performance space. They started their journey as a collective with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where they studied Sergei Prokofiev’s Quintet Op. 39 together. The instrumentation of this group sparked their curiosity for the potential of new musical combinations and spurred them into further exploration. The Collective prioritizes experimentation, curiosity, musicality, and relationships between each other and their collaborators.
What's the music?
Our program features dance music spanning from the early 1900’s by composers Astor Piazzolla and William Grant Still all the way to the present day. We wanted to showcase joyful music as summer approaches, and what better way to do that than welcome movement as we share music with you! The collective invites said movement, laughter, outbursts, and clapping from the audience. Come dance with us as we explore the rhythms of clave, tango, and bell patterns in this beautiful garden setting.
The Bridge Music Collective is dedicated to showcasing pieces we believe suit our unique instrumentation and the unique spaces we play in. This program features music by William Grant Still and Valerie Coleman, two Black composers. During Black Music Month and always, we believe that it is the duty of today’s musicians to bring forward music written by composers from historically underrepresented groups.
