NOTE:
Taking a queue from Palaver's leadership, we're proud to announce that we're donating all of the money collected at the event to The Innocence Project in honor of Black Lives Matter. The Innocence Project "exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice."
Palaver Strings is an ensemble for these times.
A collectively-run group of brilliant musician-activists, they understand that performing this ancient art can play a transformational role in community healing, expansive education, and supporting the marginalized and the overlooked.
Their Lullaby Project brings precarious pregnant women and disadvantaged new mothers together with professional musicians to write original lullabies for their babies. Their Lifesongs Project celebrates the stories of LGBTQ seniors in our communities. And their Palaver Music Center seeks to generate a love of music, foster creativity, and hold space for shared dialogue with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We can't wait to see what Palaver Strings manifests in George Floyd's era.
And we're so grateful to partner with them for this Saturday's Massivemuse. It'll be quite the production - in times of COVID, they're scattered in clumps: Three Palavers in Boston, two in Mid-Coast Maine, and five in Southern Maine. We'll weave them all together for a big evening with a Late-Romantic-Hungarian-folkish-Modernist Zoltan Kodály trio, a sublime and elegant French-Baroque Jean-Marie Leclair violin duo, and a simply divine and masterful Mendelssohn Quintet.
We'll start with a pre-concert Zoom at 7.30pm EDT, the YouTube Livestream is at 8pm, and we'll be back post-concert to palaver with Palaver in our after-Zoom Q&A.
