About

I have been a professional musician for 62 years primarily in the jazz arena but also in world music (Brazil, Afro-Cuban), theatre and opera. My website, theosaunders.com, contains much of the information regarding my musical associations and my recording history but the short story version is that I have played extensively with some of the greatest artists in jazz history, including Freddie Hubbard, Carla Bley, and Bob Brookmeyer and Azar Lawrence. I have 10 recordings as a leader and over 50 as a sideman.

Music

My musical taste and experience is wide ranging. My two greatest influences, who have informed my musical direction are Miles Davis and John Coltrane. My main piano influences (in no particular order) are Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans,Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, and Keith Jarrett.
