About
Hello! I’m a pianist, composer, and sound artist originally from both South Africa and the U.K.. However, I have been based in New York City for the past 4 years and am proud to call this city home! I recently graduated with my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Juilliard School—winning the triennial Munz Scholarship Competition. Back in South Africa, I have performed as recitalist and as a soloist with all of the major South African orchestras. Throughout my life, I have always found performing music something that is deeply fulfilling: something that serves as both an essential learning experience and a fundamental replenishment of the soul. Not only this—the fact that one is able to share music with people who enjoy it the same is truly a gift! Aside from performing and creating music: I am an avid lover of films of any style and period, and really enjoy hiking in the outdoors (especially in mountainous areas!). Hope to perform for you soon!
Music
The music that I really resonate with span from both traditional roots and contemporary styles. Sometimes familiar and sometimes unorthodox! Among some of the composers that I really resonate with are Edvard Grieg (particularly!), Frank Bridge, Percy Grainger, Gabriel Fauré, J. P. Rameau, Cesar Franck…the list really goes on and on. Some of my favorite more contemporary composers include Steve Reich, Catherine Lamb, Kali Malone, Alva Noto/Ryuichi Sakamoto…and many others. Having said these—Mozart, Bach, and Haydn are still staples I have consistently returned to throughout my life!
Along with being a solo pianist—I am also a highly collaborative artist. Four-hands, two-piano repertoire is something I really enjoy doing—however playing with performers who play other instruments is always a highlight of my collaborate side.
