Eva Ding @itsevading
Flute
About
Shanghai-born, Auckland-raised Eva Ding fell in love with the flute at age 8. In recognition of her potential as a performer, she has received accolades and fellowships from organisations such as the New York Foundation for the Arts, bespoken NYC, the Performing Arts Competitions Association of New Zealand, Chamber Music New Zealand, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
In 2017, Eva made her New York concerto debut with the Brooklyn Metro Chamber Orchestra and was invited back to solo again in 2019. An avid proponent of highlighting contemporary music, Eva gave the New Zealand premiere of Chen Yi's “The Golden Flute” Concerto. Her most interesting gig to date, however, has to have been when she was the opening musical number for pro-wrestler, Orange Cassidy, at Independent Wrestling TV’s “Family Reunion” match.
Eva holds a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the University of Auckland.
Music
Anything - if it's got a flute part in it (and even if it doesn't) I'll play it! I'm well-versed in the classical music flute canon of Bach and Telemann suites and sonatas. I love me a good, saccharine Gaubert, Reinecke, or Taffanel Sonata. And I absolutely adore exploring and arranging new pieces of music, both for solo flute and in a chamber music context.
