π» About KOE Duo:
KOE (Eva Ding, flute and Emma Kato, cello) is a duo dedicated to creating interdisciplinary projects that tell important stories of their upbringing and culture and performing the works of living Asian, Asian-hyphenate, and BIPOC composers. To that end they were artists-in-residence at the Center at West Park for their Fall 2021 Season and presented a multimedia chamber music show as an homage to the immigrant journey and self-produced a second set of shows at Arts On Site in late 2022 made possible by the LMCC Creative Engagement Grant. Theyβre also deeply connected to their respective heritages and cultures - Emma being a 2nd generation Japanese-American, and Eva being Chinese-born and New Zealand-raised - and make an effort to include pieces and composers that reflect that into their programming.
What's the music?
KOE Presents: "For Mum, Dad" β A Journey Through Contemporary AAPI Music.
Join us for an evening of intimate chamber music, featuring works by living Asian and Asian American composers that explore themes of identity, heritage, and connection. This program brings together flute and cello in a collection of works that resonate deeply with our experiences and cultural stories. Including music by Grawemeyer Award-winning composer Lei Liang and Pulitzer Prize-winner Zhou Long, as well as pieces commissioned by KOE by Corey Chang and Yuki Ohnishi.
Each piece in this program speaks to the diverse stories of the Asian and Asian American experience. We hope this evening invites you to connect with these stories, to find echoes of your own, and to experience the powerful blend of music and memory that lies at the heart of βFor Mum, Dad.β
