About
Relentlessly creative, yet seriously old guard, Franglais is one of the best and most interesting Django inspired jazz bands in the United States. Franglais sounds like jazz in the Sinti camps yet creative and beautiful solos from the front line make their music distinctly American. The husband and wife duo of rhythm guitarist Ben Wood and vocalist Eve Seltzer form the core of the musical phenomenon that is Franglais. They are joined by some of the most talented musicians in the USA and beyond...frequent collaborators include the guitarist Justin Lees, Accordion master Dallas Vietty, and Violinist Seoyeon Im.
Music
We play music inspired by Django Reinhardt, and the tradition of Manouche and Sinti Musicians, as well as music from our American Jazz roots. Swinging, improvised, and catchy the music is earthy and enjoyable for audiences young and old. Our teachers have included Stephane Wrembel, Adrian Moignard & Mathieu Chatelan, Titi Bamberger, Lollo Meier, Barry Harris, Miles Griffith, Charenee Wade, and more. Together the members of the band have won 3 grammy's and two Wammy's (Washington DC area music awards).
Songs we perform mostly come from the great american songbook, jazz standards and chanson, plus the very occasional adapted modern pop song.
Styles: Gypsy jazz, Jazz, Swing, Jazz Manouche, World Music, Django's music, Bebop.
