Caroline Gilbert
Viola
About
Hello! My name is Caroline Gilbert and, among other things, I'm a classical violist. I went to a collection of different schools including a private university, a state university, and conservatory! I started out studying premed and music performance at Vanderbilt University for two years, transferred to Indiana University in Bloomington where I grew up to finish my undergrad, and did my masters at Juilliard. Now I play in the New World Symphony in Miami, FL. Classical music is a genre that has taken me a while to appreciate but now I'm very passionate about sharing what I love about it and turning "non-believers" into classical music lovers. I love all kinds of music though and I'm in a band back in Miami! I also enjoy traveling (obviously because I now live in Chicago) and dancing - I did ballet for 14 years and secretly wish I could have been a prima ballerina!
Music
I sort of see Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms as the meat and potatoes of classical music - they are always enjoyable and satisfying to play! I'm pretty much up for reading anything, although sight reading Bartok or Shostakovitch could get interesting. I would also love to play Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Schubert and almost anything with piano!
