About
Cellist Isaiah Pennington lives and works in New York City where he completed his Master of Music at the Mannes School of Music. A pupil of celebrated soloist and chamber musician Marcy Rosen, Isaiah enjoys an active performance schedule of the major chamber repertoire, including recent concerts at the German Consulate General and the Dimenna Center for Classical Music. During his studies, Isaiah was a fellow with the Montclair Orchestra as well as a participant in the Orchestra at St. Luke’s Chamber Music Mentorship Program. Isaiah has had the privilege of learning from some of the most loved quartets today, including work with members of the Juilliard, Escher, Orion, Mogdiliani, and Aviv Quartets. Isaiah recently returned from a nearly two year residency with Lincoln Center Stage performing the major piano quartet literature as well as giving recitals of the standard cello repertoire, including the sonata literature and Bach Cello Suites.
Music
I enjoy playing a wide range of repertoire from the chamber music literature. In particular, I have performed a great number of the major works for piano trio and piano quartet. Some composers of note include Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, Clara and Robert Schumann, Beethoven, Mozart, Martinu, Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, Frank, and Fauré, among many others. I also have a particular soft spot for the string quartet genre and always relish opportunities to perform the milieu of great works, new and old, written for that ensemble. Additionally, I perform the standard cello sonatas, Bach Cello Suites, and 20th century solo cello literature with regularity.
