Arco&Aire
Contemporary tango duo
About
For the past seven years, Heyni Solera and Maxfield Wollam-Fisher have been actively working together in bringing live tango music to the Washington D.C. area. This cello/bandoneon duo focuses on playing tangos not commonly played on the dance floor and tangos written by composers who are alive today. Their mission is to foster a sense of community and collaboration between tango musicians, organizers, and dancers. They also provide outreach to new audiences that may not be aware of tango’s resurgence by working with directors and artists from other genres. In 2021, Arco & Aire released their first EP, Overture, whose track, “La Bordona” won the Best Latin Song for the 2022 Wammie Awards. In August of 2023, they finished recording their first album in Buenos Aires.
Music
We play contemporary tangos, which were composed by some of the leading Argentine composers alive today, such as Ramiro Boero, Ramiro Gallo, Pablo Jaurena, and many more. They also perform their own arrangements of tango classics of the Golden Era and Piazzolla, as well as their own compositions.
