About

Shabâvâ is a ensemble with members trained in Iran, Morocco and Spain. They combine their backgrounds in classical Persian, Arabic and Flamenco music to deliver fresh presentations of traditional pieces (including some standard western classical repertoire) and create original compositions or arrangements with a unique voice. Shabava concerts highlight the poetry of Rumi, Hafez, Khayyam, and Baba Tahir, performed in the original language and accompanied by English translations. Shabava members often collaborates with dancers who have the passion for exploration, and collaborate in weaving a new fabric of contemporary art that is strong in tradition and yet new in presentation.

Music

Flamenco, classical Persian, central Asian folk, Turkish folk and contemporary, western classical, Sephardic folk music of southern Spain and north Africa, Latin jazz, afro-Peruvian folk, Cuban contemporary and folk, popular songs from the Basque and Catalunya regions of Europe.
