About
Founded in 2022, we are a greater New York based reed quintet. Formed by DMA students of Stony Brook and Rutgers, we aim to bridge the gap between the classical music canon and music of the present. Our mission is to bring our listeners to the coolest realm of chamber music, and to spread joy with the pop music inspired repertoire. As the great Wynton Marsalis once said, music is for the listeners, but musicians are the first to listen. We had fun listening to our music and now we'd like to share the joy in our groove with you. Let's have some fun!
Music
Usually jazz/funk/pop music inspired music written specifically for our instrumentation, with strong indications of the rhythmic patterns and grooves. Some great examples include Splinter by Marc Mellits, Refraction by David Biedenbender, and our own arrangements of Gershwin's 3 Preludes. We remind ourselves of our instruments classical roots too: Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin and our arrangement of Sibelius' Impromptu are among the great examples.
