Thomas Readett
Cello
About
I began playing cello at age eight and grew up playing in the Thames Valley Youth Symphony in New London Connecticut. I am completing my Masters of Music at Manhattan School of Music under the instruction of Marion Feldman. Thomas has also coached with, Bonnie Hampton, Johannes Moser, Marcy Rosen, Terry King, Natasha Brofsky and Philip Ying.
Thomas teaches as a member of the cello faculty at the Elizabeth Faidley School well as the Waldorf School of Brooklyn, NY and has had the honor of observing his mentor, Marion Feldman pre-college students at the Manhattan School of Music.
Music
I have grown up playing classical music since a young age and it is the most defining aspect of being a cellist. Our entire repertoire is all based on a very specific period in Western European culture. This is a defining part of the rise of this instrument's popularity and it should not be forgotten, but it should not be the only defining music that the cello plays. Music should be an amalgamation of society and should reflect the whims of society. I strive to try and mix the music of the cello and the music that we hear on the radio and create a new lens that is completely its own composition of music.
