Flamenco dance
About
I founded and perform with Azahar Flamenco. Azahar Flamenco is an ensemble featuring guitar, vocals, and dance. The name is taken from azahar, the flower that blooms on the orange trees in Andalucía. Through music and dance that ranges from playful to passionate, we bring to Northwest audiences the essence of Andalucía, where the fragrance of azahar permeates the air. I began studying flamenco in Sevilla, Spain in about 2000 and I return frequently for workshops and inspiration. After moving to Seattle, I studied with Rubina Carmona and Maestra Sara de Luis, the pre-eminent flamenco artists in the region at that time. I was a featured soloist and choreographer for Ms. Carmona's Peña Flamenca. I produce shows with local flamenco artists (musicians and dancers), both large scale theatre shows with many musicians, and in more intimate settings including restaurants and private parties. I have taught flamenco to local students in studio classes and privately in my own studio.
Music
Our repertoire consists of live flamenco music and dance. Azahar Flamenco taps Andalucían tradition and cross cultural influences to bring an energetic and living flamenco to contemporary audiences.
