About
Corvid Ensemble: Like the crows of Seattle, we're smart, we do what we want, and we like shiny things. We're vaccinated. Caw! The Corvid Ensemble, founded in 2019 by vocalist Marjorie Bunday, strives to provide professional performance opportunities for Seattle musicians to present their shiny things. Marjorie, who serves as both producer and performer, likes to build concert programs around themes, but she doesn’t like boxes. The current program we're offering for Groupmuse concerts, "A Flight of Song," features Clarice Alfonso, soprano; Marjorie Bunday, contralto; and Lark Powers, piano.
Our first concert, "Quoth the Raven," was in October 2019 at Fremont Abbey Arts center, with the same performers listed above along with Christine Friday, mezzo-soprano; Eliza Woodyard, soprano; & Ricardo de la Torre, piano. "Medieval Portraits" and "Life in the Crow's Nest" were being planned when the pandemic hit. "Say It Loud! Songs of Protest and Uprising" was a Sept.-Dec. 2020 video production.
Music
We don't put ourselves in genre boxes, we do what we want! (Caw!) Having said that, we're steeped in the classical tradition (from very early to hot off the press), with sprinklings of folk, musical theater, popular song, and who knows what else to come! We commissioned a work from Washington composer Laurie de Leonne, "The Raven" for a cappella SSAA voices for our inaugural concert, the first of what we hope are many commissioned new works.
The program we're currently offering is "A Flight of Song" which was presented on the Listen Live at Lunch series at First Lutheran Church of Tacoma on 7/14/2021. That program is around 35 minutes long, and we're excited to add more music to extend the length of the show (we definitely had to edit to get it that short!) View the program at https://corvidensemble.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/A-Flight-of-Song-program.pdf. Video & audio coming soon. We're all vaccinated and happy to wear masks while we perform.
