Lauren Washburn
Clarinet
About
Lauren Washburn is a clarinetist in her first year of the performance master's program at the University of North Texas with Dr. Phillip Paglialonga. Originally from the SF Bay Area, she received her B.A. in Music at UC Berkeley.
During the years between graduating from Cal and being accepted into UNT, Lauren worked full-time as a medical school administrator by day, and orchestra musician by night with the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra (UCBSO). During this time, Lauren’s commitment to the orchestra led to her being promoted to principal clarinetist from 2016-2020. As a member of UCBSO, she performed in over 14 concerts per year and participated in masterclasses with such luminaries as Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and the Danish String Quartet, culminating in an international tour of Spain in the summer of 2017.
Her previous teachers are clarinetists of the SF Symphony and Oakland East Bay Symphony, including Steve Sanchez, Jerome Simas and Bill Kalinkos.
Music
Orchestral and chamber repertoire spanning from 18th century classical era to present day. Clarinet chamber repertoire spans composers like Mozart, Brahms, Schubert, Nielsen, and everything in between. With my clarinet quartet I am currently dipping my toes into jazz and tango with Astor Piazzolla's "History of the Tango"
