Erica Jacobs-Perkins
Violinist
About
Erica Jacobs-Perkins is passionate about demystifying classical music-making. Currently a candidate for a Master of Music in Violin Performance at DePaul University, she holds a B.Mus. in Violin Performance and a B.A. in English Literature, both from McGill University. She has taught private and group lessons since 2008, including two years as a Suzuki and traditional violin teacher at the McGill Conservatory, and has completed Creative Ability Development teacher training in addition to her Suzuki training. She is also actively involved in other aspects of the music industry; she is currently employed at A440 Violin Shop in Chicago and has worked in the past at Sullivan Violins in Rochester.
As a performer, Erica has participated in numerous festivals and workshops, including Bowdoin International Music Festival (‘14), Orford String Quartet Seminar (‘13), Texas Music Festival (‘11), and Interlochen Arts Camp (’04-’06, ’09, ’10). Erica is a native of Rochester, NY and is an alumna of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Hochstein School of Music, and the Kanack School of Music (where she has also coached a summer violin ensemble). Her principal teachers have been Felicia Moye, Denise Lupien, and Virginia Wensel, and she has also worked with Janet Sung, Susanna Gilmore, and Midori Goto. Erica’s most formative personal and musical experience to date was her four-year tenure with the TARDIS quartet, which taught her patience and musical adventurousness, as well as gaining three lifelong friends. She loves playing everything from Bach and Brahms to Radiohead covers and Schnittke, and is happy to play solo or in various chamber combinations.
