In the past, she has been an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, a member of the Opera in the Heights orchestra, and a member and co-director of Duo Scordatura, a new music ensemble that culminated its eleventh season with an all-commissioned program at Carnegie Hall. She has performed, coached, and taught in Germany, Italy, and Austria, as well as in Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica with The Orchestra of the Americas during its Caribbean Summer Tour.
Music
Most of Zelda’s formal training was classical, but other genres have always been a part of her life. In middle school she was a member of Texas Young Virtuosos, a violin ensemble that played equal amounts of classical and Klezmer music. In high school she was a member of the Cripple Creek Fiddlers. In college she performed almost 20 operas, but she also performed with the schools’ contemporary ensemble Aura, and participated in dozens of student composers’ and conductors’ recitals. After college she joined Duo Scordatura, an ensemble that primarily commissioned and premiered new works by living composers but also made new arrangements of older works. She enjoyed immersion in an even broader variety of music while attending Boston Conservatory. Since moving back to Houston she has been performing with local non-classical musicians such as Chris Lively and Matthew Kidd (Slow Meadow) and making appearances with Sofar Sounds, as well as performing with regional orchestras.
