Nina Berman
Soprano
About
Hi! My name is Nina and I'm a soprano living in upper Manhattan! I'm a freelance singer who mostly does recital and concert work, but I also sing in a cool post-prog band, do the occasional opera, and I also freelance as a classical Pilates teacher. I've been in NYC for a while, and I've performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the city’s major venues, including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Alice Tully Hall, B.B. King’s Blues Club, The Iridium, New York City’s Town Hall, Brooklyn’s Roulette, The Cutting Room, and SubCulture, as well as in numerous tristate areas concert series. I hold a Bachelors and Masters of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the CUNY Graduate Center. Check out my website here: ninabermansoprano.com
Music
I spend a lot of time these days with American high modernists, but love all kinds of different music: I grew up with a songwriter grandfather and jazz pianist father, so I know and love American songbook rep deeply, and have done lots of gigs where this stuff is on the menu. I also sing a lot of standard song rep, mostly German Romantic and Expressionist music (think Schumann, Wolf, Schubert, Schoenberg, et al.), but I am of course familiar with and love other things, as well. Recent recital programs have included works by Dvorak, Mussorgsky, Dowland, Brahms, Copland, Poulenc, Debussy, Babbitt, Cage, and Barber, as well as works by lesser-known and living composers. You can listen to examples of some of what I do in my Soundcloud link!
