About
Bass-baritone Jonathan Z. Harris is a native New Orleanian opera singer, recitalist, and actor based in New York. A two-time Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Jonathan has been an Apprentice Artist with Sarasota Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Saratoga, and Chautauqua Opera and has also sung with Opera Company of Middlebury, Opera MODO, PORTopera (now Opera Maine), Bronx Opera, Dicapo Opera, and dell’Arte Opera Ensemble. Role highlights include Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Simone and Betto in Gianni Schicchi, and Superintendent Budd in Albert Herring. As a recitalist, Jonathan is a 2017 alumnus of SongFest in L.A. Recent solo programs include GREEN SPRINGS THE TREE, a collection of mid-20th c. art songs and folk arrangements from both sides of the iron curtain, and LIEDERKREIS, an exploration of the song cycles of Schumann, Poulenc, and Rorem.
Music
Programs include a variety of art song and opera arias with piano. Favorite composers include Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, Finzi, Petr Eben (Czech him out!), Mozart, Handel, Britten, and many others.
