About
Robert Hjelmstad is a pianist of many interests. He is equally adept in his roles as soloist, chamber musician and piano teacher. In 2019, he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado Boulder in the studio of David Korevaar. During the degree, his primary research interests were the music of Maurice Ravel and strategies for memory enhancement in piano teaching. He has performed around the United States and has also given masterclasses and performances in Brazil. In addition to performing, Hjelmstad’s keen interest in teaching has led to several presentations on teaching topics in regional and national conferences as well as at the National College Music Society Conference in Louisville. In fall, 2019 Hjelmstad will be teaching at the University of Colorado Boulder as a sabbatical replacement for David Korevaar.
