Viola
About
Hello! I am finishing up my Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Stony Brook University. I have played viola for 20 years and in addition to my graduate studies, I am an active freelance violist around NYC and the surrounding states. My academic specialties are new/contemporary music and Baroque music (I also play Baroque viola).
Music
I play all kinds of music with all kinds of ensembles, but my favorite eras would probably be Baroque and new/contemporary music. Some of my favorite composers (in no particular order) include Bach, Rameau, Telemann, Rosenmüller, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Schumann, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Debussy, Ravel, Hindemith, Britten, Shostakovich, Bartok, Caroline Shaw, Julia Wolfe, Missy Mazzoli, Kaija Saariaho, Reich, Ades, Tchaikovsky, and many more. My favorite programs to play include diverse music from many different eras with one or two common threads between them. My final graduation recital for my doctoral degree will include Bach's 4th Cello Suite in E-flat major, Hindemith's Sonata for Viola Solo Op. 31 No. 4, Caroline Shaw's "Boris Kerner" (for viola and flower pot percussion), and Brahms' Sonata in F Minor.
