About

Hello, my name is Doug. I grew up in the DC area, and after earning a DMA in music performance from the Eastman School of Music I have been fortunate enough to return to this vibrant city to perform with the U.S. Army Band. My musical passion is for chamber music, music that breaks barriers and makes connections, music that is powerful and intimate. I desire to take all kinds of music, especially that which is great yet underappreciated, and share it with the members of my DC community. In addition to my performance projects, I help lead Global Premiere, an online organization that instigates new music composition and performance, and I take great satisfaction in watching new works come to life.

Music

I play a wide range of repertoire, ranging from original music to transcriptions, from the solo violin partitas of J.S. Bach to contemporary and modern works that push the limits of my instrument. I also perform as a jazz musician, and lead a jazz sax quartet called Off on Four: we are currently figuring out how to use loop pedals to expand the capabilities of the genre. Lately, I have placed a focus on playing new works which I have either commissioned or where I have a personal connection with the composer, in juxtaposition with epic classics of the musical canon, such as J.S. Bach's 2nd Violin Partita, my most recent major project.
