Joshua McClendon
Cello
About
Eighteen year-old cellist Joshua McClendon is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree under Richard Aaron at The Juilliard School. A Detroit native, Mr. McClendon began his cello studied at the age of eight under the tutelage of Detroit Symphony Orchestra cellist Paul Wingert. Since, he’s attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, Meadowmount School of Music, and the Aspen Music Festival and School where he’s had the great fortune to work with cellists such as Richard Aaron, Brinton Smith, Crispin Campbell, Jonathan Koh, and Eric Kim. A laureate of the 2017 Sphinx Competition, Joshua has appeared as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and more. When not playing cello, Joshua enjoys long walks, ice hockey games, and has recently found that he enjoys fishing. Joshua performs on a 1933 Karel Vavra cello graciously on loan from the Virtu Foundation.
