Astraeus String Quartet
String quartet
About
Astraeus is a new San Francisco-based string quartet, dedicated to performing exciting works in innovative spaces. We love music that moves and excites us; everything from the classics to contemporary art music and pop arrangements are in our wheelhouse! Born out of a friendship started at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, we have been playing together in casual settings since 2011, but in summer 2018 we formed the Astraeus String Quartet together. Violinists are Mia Nardi-Huffman and Samuel Nelson, Viola is Daphne Gooch, and Cello is Jorge Maresch. We are always looking for fun new venues to play at, and new people to share our love of music with! Check us out at astraeussq.com for more info.
Music
Our current program includes the two Prokofiev String Quartets, which we are spending the year delving into, as well as Caroline Shaw's 'Entr'acte', selections from the Danish String Quartet's 'WoodWorks', and Beethoven's Op. 18 No. 2 string quartet. We also love playing Shostakovich, Haydn, Mozart, Piazzolla, and many more!
