About

Italian violinist, improviser and composer Ludovica Burtone has performed worldwide as both a
soloist and chamber musician. Classically trained, she studied at the Conservatory of Liceu in
Spain, and the Conservatory J. Tomadini in Italy, where she graduated with a Master of Arts in
Violin Performance, Magna Cum Laude. Ludovica has worked with several European orchestras
including the Orchestra Mitteleuropa and the Orchestra Teatro Lirico di Trieste. As a chamber
musician she has toured throughout continental Europe, Canada, Costa Rica and the United
States.

In addition to her classical training, Ludovica grew up improvising in jazz and folk music
contexts, and since 2012 has immersed herself in all aspects of jazz studies. In 2011 she was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Banff Festival in Jazz and Creative Music (Canada), where she studied performance and composition with such artists as Dave Douglas, Eyvind Kang and Kneebody. She has also worked in masterclasses with Jim Black, Mark Feldman and Mark Dresser. In 2013 she was the assistant to John Blake Jr. at the Mark O’Connor Summer String Program.

Ludovica has extensive experience in teaching and studio recording in orchestral, chamber music, improvisational, television and film scoring sessions. She is a violin section leader of the Berklee World Strings under Eugene Friesen, and has performed as concertmaster & section leader with artists such as Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Dream Theater, Alejandro Sanz, A. R. Rahman and Susana Baca. After completing her diploma in Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music, where she was a scholarship recipient, Ludovica is currently a teacher for El Sistema, music education program in Somerville MA, and she is involved in different ensemble projects in the Boston and New York area.

Ludovica Burtone group. This is the most recent project that presents all original compositions written in the last year for string quartet and rhythm section.

Ludovica Burtone string quartet. Ludovica and her string quartet presents a variety of composition and arrangements from the standard jazz repertoire, tangos and originals.

Ludovica Burtone and Marta Roma duo. Ludovica and Marta, violin and cello, are two eclectic musicians that entertain the public with a fun and diverse repertoire from classical to folk and jazz music.
