Mirta Wymerszberg
An accomplished flutist, bandoneon player and vocalist, Seattle musician Mirta Wymerszberg, a native of Buenos Aires, brings extensive experience in authentic tango music from Argentina, where she received her musical education and performed classical and tango music. She earned a master’s degree in flute performance at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires, as well as a degree in baroque flute performance and chamber music in Lyon, France. She moved to California in 1995, where she co-founded, performed and recorded with Flor de Tango and continued to develop her career in baroque music with faculty of the Music Department at Stanford University. After obtaining a Master of Arts degree in flute performance at UC Santa Cruz she moved to Seattle, WA, where she founded tango band La Luciernaga. Mirta has produced and performed several full staged Tango shows in the Seattle area and Bay Area, California. She has performed with Argentine Tango musicians like: Gustavo Beytelmann, Hernan Reinaudo, Claudio Mendez and Juan Lorenzo. She has recorded several cds: FLOR de Tango, 2000; Tango a dos Puntas, 2009; Ay Margarita, 2011; Figuracion de Gabino Betinotti, 2009.
Mirta is also known for her work with children both as an educator and a performer. She's an advocate for nurturing the bilingual and bi-cultural children from within the latino families and communities. She has worked at numerous Spanish schools around Seattle, and created the school curriculum for PCPE, Phinney Cooperativa Prescolar en Español. She created a tango show with puppets for children, Bajamos del Barco, that has played extensively through the Seattle Public Libraries. She has also recorded a full length CD of Music in Spanish for children with her own compositions.
She currently performs with La Luciernaga Tango band, La peña Flamenca de Seattle, and host and curates Cafe Latino, a series of live music to promote latino local artist, with the goal to create a recurrent venue for this music.
