Fiati Five
Wind quintet
About
The Fiati Five have been the ensemble-in-residence at the Chamber Music Campania festival in southern Italy for the past two years. We have given several performances across Italy and New York; our performances in the summer of 2015 will include Atlantic City, NJ, Atlanta, GA, and Sarasota, FL. Our members come from across the United States and hold a wide variety of advanced degrees and performing experiences.
A central component of our work with Chamber Music Campania has been the expansion of wind quintet repertoire, including collaborations with soprano Katie Dukes Walker, cellist Francesco Mastromatteo, and several composers-in-residence at Chamber Music Campania. We have premiered works by Jason Thorpe Buchanan, Carrie Magin, and Eric Nathan and we worked closely with Jennifer Jolley, Libero Mureddu, and Kyle Werner.
We are committed to new music, audience cultivation, and taking classical music out of traditional spaces in order to do so. Our concerts curate a cultural experience: they are audience-interactive, musically interesting, at least partially memorized, and typically pair music with food, art, or another familiar point of entry, rather than following the formal, traditional concert paradigm. Listeners should come away having heard something new, having heard something old in a new way, and feeling that classical music is accessible.
The Fiati Five are:

David Cook, clarinet
