About

Yeji Oh started her musical studies with playing piano when she was three years old then showed her interest in flute when she was in fifth grade. Fascinated not only by how shiny the flute was but also by how versatile it sounded, Yeji began her private studies with Meerenai Shim. Yeji also studied with Greer Ellison, Maria Tamburrino and Isabelle Chapuis. She currently studies with Linda Toote at Boston University to pursue her Bachelor of Music degree. She also studied considerably with Renée Krimsier at Boston University for a semester. Yeji has performed in masterclasses of many artists, including Aaron Goldman, Bonita Boyd, Anne Harrow, Lorna McGhee, Keith Underwood, Carol Wincenc, Nina Perlove, Trevor Wye, Leone Buyse, Julia Bogorad-Kogan, Francesca Arnone, Jim Walker and Robert Stallman.

Yeji has performed as a co-principal flute position at El Camino Youth Symphony as well as an associate principal flute position at California Youth Symphony. She also has performed with Santa Clara County High School Honor Band. Yeji actively performs not only with obligatory large ensembles at Boston University but also with Boston University On Broadway as a member of the pit.

Yeji supports newly composed music and frequently performs works by student composers as well as well-established living composers. In fall 2013, Yeji premiered Anaís Azul’s Cascades and Canyons, which can be heard here. In February 2015, she performed John Heiss’s Four Movements for Three Flutes with her trio at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. In April 2015, she performed Vartan Aghababian’s Pavane and Variations for Three Flutes at MIT’s Killian Hall with her friends Stephany Kim and Jenny Davis in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. She also premiered Benjamin Low’s Social Situation for Woodwind Quintet last fall.

As an active freelancer in Boston community, Yeji has played with Brookline Symphony Orchestra, at wedding gigs through Perfect Harmony and Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. This summer, Yeji performed with Harvard Summer Chamber Orchestra, run and directed under Elias Miller and Nick Sterner, as well as Belmont Festival Orchestra, run by Nathaniel Meyer.
