About
The American pianist and digital painter, Yolanda Klappert studied at the Ravel Academie in St. Jean-de-Luz, France and Fontainebleau Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. She earned a BM, SCL at the University of Cincinnati, Conservatory of Music; an MM and MMA from Yale University, School of Music; and a DMA. from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Music. A classical concert pianist for 25 years, Yolanda Klappert has won numerous musical awards and scholarships and recorded frequently. She has appeared as a soloist with such orchestras as Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Cincinnati Philharmonia, Yale Philharmonia and Concerto Avenna Warsaw, debuted at Carnegie Hall, and Alice Tully Hall. She has participated in many music festivals, including Tanglewood, Yale in Norfolk, Marlboro, New College, Piccolo Spoleto, Fontainebleau Ecole, Ravel Music Festival, and Rome Festival to name a few.
Yolanda Klappert has recorded 25 albums for Albany Records, Opus One Records, and Time Warner Interactive, and ComMedia. She has championed the music of the 20th century, from Schoenberg to Cage; she has recorded the complete solo and chamber works of composer Frank Martin, to rave reviews. Eight new albums on the ComMedia label are available on iTunes for download, featuring both traditional classical works like Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata, Op. 13 to works for prepared piano by Max Schubel.
In 1998, Yolanda Klappert created the original CD-ROM, From Stoneage to Rock: An Interactive History of Classical Music, which launched her career in digital art - and has been involved with many other CD-ROMs and animations. After a performing and recording career as a classical concert pianist, Yolanda Klappert was excited to discover she could express complicated and interdisciplinary ideas on a multitude of levels, simultaneously. The computer became her keyboard, camera, and paintbrush. Most significantly, she experienced a profound joy in creating “something from nothing” while combining my instincts as a musical and visual artist with the sophistication of “cutting edge” technology. She has had several solo exhibtions of her work - in New York City, Rome, Italy and in several Los Angeles Galleries. Among sites of exhibition are Chashama Gallery of New York City; Art Roma, Rome, Italy, Long Beach Arts Center, California; Topanga Canyon Gallery, California, Arthouse Gallery, Santa Monica; Gallery 41; Fulton Street Gallery, New York; and elsewhere. Her works are published in Book Art Press.
Yolanda ‘s next adventure is redefining the classical music experience by combining music and digital art along with musical commentary – called CLASSICALLY DIGITAL. She has been performing all around the country.
