Michael Li
violin
About
I started playing the violin at age 6, and studied primarily under Motoi Takeda (Assoc. Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony), and Wendy Sharp (Professor at the Yale School of Music). I have performed as a guest soloist with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, Brazos Valley Symphony, Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and Shepton High School Chamber Orchestra. During my college years I was also an active chamber musician, performing works primarily by Beethoven and Shostakovich. Since graduating, I've completed my Doctor of Medicine degree and am currently training in psychiatry residency, but have continued to keep music and violin an active part of my daily life.
I've also served as the Assistant Conductor of the Yale Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director of the Berkeley College Orchestra at Yale University. I studied conducting with Toshiyuki Shimada at Yale, and Mark Shapiro at La Schola Cantorum in Paris, France. I have been invited to guest conduct the Yale Symphony Orchestra, Berkeley College Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, Shepton Chamber Orchestra, and the NEC Orchestra for undergraduates.
