About

Halam Kim, 23, of New York, is an aspiring violist that shows versatility in all areas of solo, chamber, and orchestral music.

She began her studies with Dr. I-Hao Lee, during which she had the opportunities to perform in Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center, From 2012-2013, Halam attended Juilliard Pre-College where she studied under the renowned Heidi Castleman. She recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music in May of 2017, under the tutelage of Carol Rodland and Phillip Ying with the Performer’s Certificate. At the same time, she graduated from the University of Rochester with a Psychology Degree, and she’s now on track to pursue her Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School.

Halam’s major performances include Walton Concerto with Eastman Philharmonia and a debut in Carnegie Hall. She has been honored to play in masterclasses with many esteemed musicians including Kim Kashkashian, Nobuko Imai, Hsin-Yun Huang, Dimitri Murrath, Paul Neubauer, and Ivo Van-Der Werff.

In 2012, she was the Grand Prize winner of the Wagner Young Musicians Competition and holds many prizes in other competitions. Halam is currently a section violist in the Glens Falls Symphony and Symphony in C.
