Alexandra Carella
Cello, Piano, Voice
About
Alexandra Carella has performed across the east coast and internationally as an accomplished cellist, pianist, and mezzo soprano. She is currently a performer and teacher living in Danvers, MA.
Alexandra is a classically trained cellist, beginning her studies with Pei Lu of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and continuing with Michael Mermagen during her time at the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at the Catholic University of America. While at the university, she continued her lifelong study of piano under James Litzelman and began to study voice with Fabiana Bravo.
Alexandra has performed with many ensembles as an instrumentalist, a vocalist, and a conductor. From her formative days as principal cellist with the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra to her current work of performing and teaching throughout the greater Boston area, Alexandra's drive is the connection of audience and performer: the raw emotion of humanity that she feels can best be expressed and appreciated through music.
Music
I enjoy playing chamber work, specifically piano trios and string quartets. Here is a sampling of a few chamber pieces that I have performed with some frequency:
-Arensky, Piano Trio in D Minor, Opus 32
-Beethoven, WoO27
-Beethoven, String Quartet No. 6 in B-flat Major, Op. 18, No. 6
-Clara Schumann, Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 17
-Smetana, String Quartet No. 1 in E minor
-Vivaldi, Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor, RV 531
Of course, my repertoire includes a wide variety of solo cello and cello/piano works, a few of which you can hear through the SoundCloud links on this page.
