Merrill was the winner of “Audience Favorite” at the 1930’s Idol Competition in New York singing songs of Alice Faye and has sung at Feinstein’s at the Regency and the National Arts Club. She debuted at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center singing the title role in the Little Orchestra Society’s “Cinderella” concert under the baton of Dino Anagnost. Her cabaret debut at New York’s Metropolitan Room with her show entitled “My Shirley Years” on Shirley Temple and the leading ladies in her films received rave reviews and went on to the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland for a run of 30 performances, winning a “Best of Fest” and Mervyn Stutter’s “Pick of the Fringe” awards. Merrill's show was also featured in the London Times.

Music

I enjoy sharing with audiences songs of the Great American Songbook such as Berlin, Porter, Gershwin, as well as lesser known composers from the "Tin Pan Alley" era. I generally sing music written in the early 1900's up to 1940's. Rogers and Hammerstein, Jerome Kern and Sondheim are also favorites.

I can put together programs around a theme of film music of this era, popular song of this era, songs of Alice Faye (a famous singer of the 1930's and 40's) music from Shirley Temple films (you'd be surprised there are a lot of wonderful songs written for the adult characters to sing in those movies), or on a theme of a particular decade of from 1900-1950.
